2025 in Lithuania has been dedicated to Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, marking the anniversary of his birth and honoring one of the country’s most influential artists. Light Conversion chose to reflect on Čiurlionis’ legacy through their own tradition – an application developed by the Applications Laboratory.
Čiurlionis was a composer and painter whose work transcended conventional artistic boundaries. His musical education shaped his visual language – many of his paintings are structured like musical compositions, where rhythm, harmony, and movement unfold on canvas. He created imagined worlds, inviting the viewer not just to observe, but to experience.
Using femtosecond laser ablation and high-contrast black-and-white marking, the team created a stainless-steel coin die depicting Čiurlionis’ painting “Sonata No. 5 (Sonata of the Sea). Finale.”
We invite you to observe the process while listening to Čiurlionis’ symphonic poem “The Sea”, performed by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra.
A moment to pause, look closely, and enter Čiurlionis’ world.
