Thorlabs' Mini2P is an out-of-the-box solution for 2-photon microscopy designed for neuronal studies in freely-moving specimens. The Mini2P microscope is designed for in vivo multiphoton microscopy which requires high-precision imaging while avoiding disruption to the specimen.
The microscope is only tethered by a control cable and a polarization-maintaining optical fiber for delivery of excitation light, making it easy to use with minimal disturbance to the specimen. This miniature microscope features integrated scanning, focusing, and imaging optics in addition to two on-board SiPM detectors all in a lightweight (<3 g including an objective) adaptable package.
Based on the original design referenced in the paper by Zong. W., et al.*, the Mini2P is a versatile solution for neurological studies requiring multiphoton imaging. While it excels in neuronal activity detection via GCaMP sensor imaging, it has been used for a range of other applications requiring dual-channel red and green detection and deep-tissue imaging probing millimeters into a sample. When paired with our GRIN lenses, the Mini2P multiphoton microscope offers cutting-edge access into neuronal circuits in freely-moving specimens.

How do you take two-photon imaging beyond the confines of a traditional microscope? The Mini2P is a miniature 2-photon microscope designed for freely moving in-vivo imaging. In 2023, Thorlabs developed the Mini2P in partnership with Weijian Zong and brought a turnkey system to wider availability for the entire research community.
In this webinar, we’ll go beyond a system overview to explore what it takes to successfully implement Mini2P in a research laboratory. Dr. Laura Maddalena, a postdoctoral researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology, will share her experience installing and integrating the system in her lab.
Dr. Irma Tello-Garcia, a postdoctoral researcher from one of the first laboratories to install the Thorlabs Mini2P, will provide a firsthand look at using the system for calcium imaging in freely moving mice, including practical solutions, troubleshooting techniques, and experimental videos.
Adrijana Crncec, PhD, Product Manager at Thorlabs, will conclude with exciting updates and new developments for current and future Mini2P users.
Whether you are considering Mini2P for your research or are already using the system, this webinar will provide expert guidance into implementing and getting the most from freely moving two-photon imaging.
